DSPPM10KMBT: Production Model 10 Karambit
Derespina Custom Knives
All Derespina knives are consistent in profile and style. However, they are all handmade pieces so you will see minute variations from one to the next as Rich likes to keep it interesting and "mix it up" with different grinds and embellishments. He primarily uses G10 for handle material for its tactical, lightweight and durability properties but can use other materials such as exotic woods or Micarta. Nothing textures quite like G10, nothing!

The steel you find most often on a Desperina custom knife is 154CM but on occasion, he will use D2 or S30V. Ultimately any steel will react and perform excellently with proper ergonomics for the user, proper bevel and edge geometry for cutting ability and edge retention. The difference between most steels comes down to maintenance. Some are more corrosion resistant than others and require less maintenance which is preferable in his philosophy.

This is the production version of the now infamous Model 10 Karambit. The Model 10 was designed to be the tactical fixed blade that one could carry every day. Everyone raves about the ergonomics on this one and the carry-ability of this compact karambit. The D2 tool steel blade measures 2.75" tip to handle and is 0.185" thick. The blade is double ground, just like the custom, with functional jimping on the thumb ramp and a brushed satin finish. The angle in which the blade style sits in relation to the handle creates maximum cutting and slashing power as well as penetration. Tip to tip, this knife measures 6.5" overall with a one-inch diameter pinky ring. This is a well-built karambit with superior ergonomics from one of the best and it comes with a friction fit Kydex sheath with adjustable belt clip attached. It is one of the premier tactical tools on the market and we're glad to see it in production form with the exact same materials as the custom but at a great price point.

The Derespina Model 10 Karambit is a steal! For less than 100 USD, I got a high quality, Derespina design knife that I could not tell from the custom model. The fit and finish are superb, the grind lines are smooth and symmetrical, and the G-10 handle scales are perfectly aligned with the tang. Like other reviewers have already mentioned, the “tek-lok” is a poor chicom knock-off, but I’m not going to lower my rating of the knife itself just because of the belt clip. With the money I saved, I’ll buy a real Tek-Lok from BladeTech — problem solved. The scabbard is kydex and fits the blade snugly. Should loosen up a bit after I practice my draw a few hundred times. BTW, D2 is not a stainless steel; keep it oiled if you’re like me and will carry this thing close to the body. Five stars, would buy again, highly recommended.
