KS7600: Launch 5 AUTO
Kershaw Knives

An exciting entry in Kershaw's automatic series is the Launch 5. Designed by Emerson and USA-built by Kershaw, this handsome auto takes Emerson’s tactical looks to the next level of refinement.

The Launch 5's CPM-154 powdered metallurgy blade steel offers more uniform distribution of carbides—so it takes and holds an excellent edge. It also provides good corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and toughness. The blade is stonewashed for good looks and to hide use-scratches.

To lighten the Launch 5's weight, the handles and integrated backspacer are made of durable anodized aluminum. A machined texture on the handles provides a secure grip. The Launch 5 opens with a push button, recessed so that it is level with the flat of the handle. This is a safety feature and makes it harder for the knives to accidentally deploy. Left-handers can use their index finger instead of their thumb to press the blade-release/lock button. A reversible pocket clip is included and a lanyard tie-off is built into the butt end of the knife.
Features
  • Push-Button Lock - Found on the Kershaw Folding Saw, It locks the saw blade open during use, then releases with the push of a button.
  • Made In The USA - When you see this on one of our knives, it means the knife was made in our Tualatin, Oregon manufacturing facility by skilled Kershaw knifemakers.
  • Reversible - Pre-drilled holes in the handle enable the user to change either the tip position or the side on which the knife carries.

Overall great knife - should have replaced the bent clip
This is my second purchase of the same knife, as I lost the first. I use it as my EDC. I like the button position/machining, and the fact that there is no additional safety - push and go. The locking mechanism is somewhat "gritty" since the mechanism loads the unlocking bar making for friction, but once actuated, the knife opens fast and smoothly. In the year of EDC it never opened iby mistake. The grip is minimal but sill adequately fillis out my size 8 hand, with the shape allowing me to index the grip reliably. The blade is substantial, easy to sharpen and holds an edge - a good compromise. The non-Tanto blade makes for an easy sharpening experience. The primary use of the knife is defensive, but is fully capable to handle field tasks easily. The knife is easy to keep clean and lubricated, as it has an open design, but I do have some concern with the spring mechanism cleaning. My last knife was used for over a year, carried daily in my pocket and used in the field; I never needed to take it apart. I suggest opening the new knife a couple of hundred times to get the mechanism smooth, and using silicone lubricant to minimize lint buildup from pocket carry. I also like the blade finish "stonewashed" as shine is for show, and would look worn quickely. The almost 3.5 inch blade is the perfect (max) size for pocket carry. The black andodized grip did wear off, but I took that to be patina, and ended up preferring the smoothness that came with wear. The first clip bent from pulling the knife out of my pocket on an angle, so I ended up unswerving the clip from the knive, and rebending it. The clip ended up contributing to the loss of my knife -- I should have replaced it.

Update on locking issue.
I finally got around to sending the 7600 back to Kershaw for repair. They returned it with a sticky note that said it needed to be replaced. The replacement knife has the exact same problem. It still fails to lock open. So disappointing. I'll still buy ZT's, but Kershaws are garbage.
