BM940BK: Model 940 - Osborne Design

Benchmade Knives

Cool. A refreshing design whose form exemplifies what custom knife maker Warren Osborne believes important function and quality. The Model 940 incorporates the exclusive AXIS™ locking mechanism for a functional smoothness that compliments well the purity of the design style. A modified reverse tanto blade shape machined of S30V stainless steel, features dual thumb-stud openers for safe and easy ambidextrous access. The handle design is slender with a slight curvature and recessed contours for grip stability. Machined of aluminum and deep color anodized, the handle scales are a rich green color sparked by a color anodized titanium back spacer. The liners provide solid function for the AXIS™ lock and feature subtle finger treads for added blade control. A stainless steel carry-clip is movable to either handle side, making the Model 940 a 100-percent totally ambidextrous cutting tool. Contemporary design, innovative function and a higher standard of manufactured quality give the new Model 940 everything needed for superior form and function.

I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT A BOX CUTTER
This knife is my most disappointing knife purchase of the past year. Not a cheap knife. Evidently, an impressive list of materials and talent was expended in creating it.Like my old Jeep CJ, it can do most anything while yet do nothing well.In some ways the blade design looks as though someone was trying to make a too small multi purpose fighting knife. But the blade is to thin and the grip too smallThe coated blade has a high degree of drag when slicing. As is the case with much of todays knife fare it falls within the realm of office equipment. A $200 box cutter.I intended the knife for EDC.

Light, fast, and an excellent edc knife
I have read about the 940 for a long time and have wanted to get one in my collection after reading and watching reviews on its performance. Nick Shabazz has probably one of the better reviews on this knife as well as nutn fancy. I was disappointed in the side to side play in the knife found at the pivot tension needed to flick the knife open. Blade centering was also not what I would expect from a $200 knife. In my mind, that kind of money should buy you a refined cutting tool that only more expensive materials would elevate the price. Not better fit and finish. Everything else about the knife is wonderful. The grind is good, the sharpness out of the box is good, and the coating on the blade is done very well. I use all my knives and this one is no exception. Great slicer and box opener as well as food prep. Super light weight and can be carried in dress pants, in particular dockers with the small pocket inside the normal front right pocket, without feeling like you have a hunk of metal in your pants. Pocket clip - meh. Would I buy again...maybe if Reate made this knife for benchmade. No more benchmade for me.
