KA5300: KA-BAR Gunny Knife
KA-BAR Knives

Designed by R. Lee Ermey, also known as "The Gunny", the Gunny Knife from KA-BAR was the last project he worked on before his passing in 2018. Created to be used in any and all terrains and situations, the Gunny Knife is a durable and sturdy fixed blade. The large spear point blade is made from 1095 Cro-Van steel with a black coating that reduces visibility and helps with wear and tear on the blade. The almost leaf-shaped design on the blade allows it to perform well with both chopping and slicing tasks and makes a great outdoor companion. The ergonomic handle is made from Webb wood and provides a solid grip for heavy use. The Gunny Knife is proudly made in the USA and comes with a leather sheath.

Wood Handles
Wood Handles Provides a traditional, natural look and feel to a modern tool. Wood absorbs shock well and is popular in axe handles.
Leather Sheath
Leather Sheath Leather is known for its durability and traditional appeal. When compared to Kydex it is preferred for its silence when bumped against other objects, as well as blade retention.
1095 Carbon Steel
1095 Carbon Steel An excellent hard use steel, 1095 is a primary choice for camping and larger fixed blade knives for its extreme toughness and ability to hold an edge. Corrosion resistance is very limited with this steel (it will rust) and most blades come with a coating to prevent premature rusting.

Gunny's Passion !
This knife that Gunny Ermey passionately designed for both combat and utilitarian uses brings back memories of my days back at Parris Island, the Island that God forgot. H Co., Platoon 328, 3rd Battalion where this Marine was born ( now retired ). In combat training with bayonets and knives, we were trained to thrust, twist violently, withdraw. The forend of Gunny's knifeblade was, without doubt designed with that in mind as a defensive weapon. For utility it would, without a doubt be destined to be a fine chopper for wood or necks ! The portion between the ricasso and the blade curve is great in use as a slicer of food or wood. The use of the entire blade would be considered by me to be kukriesque. The ultimate K-Bar, a tribute to the Corps and a Legacy left for fellow Marines, such as myself, and fans. Very practical in all scenarios. Although I don't recommend it, it can also dig poop holes in the boonies. The finger guard is great and the 1095 cro van is a practical steel. It would be nice to have a stainless type version for our Navy friends like corpsman , sailors and seals and for Marines on board ships for long durations. As a survival tool this knife is a great compliment for survival and prepping acrivities. It also looks great framed new as a tribute to Lee Ermey, a great Marine, actor, and family man. This knife helps prove his designing ablities of militaria. The Marines should put this knife in service and name it Ermmey's K-Bar ! Thank you K-Bar for making Lee's knife design a reality and thank you KnifeCenter for carrying it ! Good night Chesty and Ermey, wherever you both are ! Aoorah ! Gung Ho ! and " God bless Marines everywhere! ! ". Sidenote, Aoorah or Aaoorah is the Old Corps Oorah ! Gung Ho is Chinese for their observance of Marines working together to defeat enemies and therefore means "Working together" ! One, All ! Great knife, mine has held up through some real punishment !

Oorah!
I need another camp knife/combat/chopper, like I need a third butt cheek. But, I just had to have this KaBar, Gunny Fixed in remembrance of a great American, R. Lee Ermey, affectionately known to us as, “Gunny.” Some may question whether Gunny was a fine actor, or just played himself in the roles he played. But, check out his performance as the sleazy preacher, Jimmy Lee Farnsworth in, Fletch Lives. Definitely not who he was as a person; yet he is very believable in that role (He was snubbed by the Oscar’s Memoriam this year; Shame on you, Hollywood!). But, Gunny endeared himself to us in his role as U. S. Marine Drill Instructor, Gunnery Sgt. Hartman, in the movie, Full Metal Jacket, carrying out a role he lived and owned. Gunny was the quintessential bad-a**, hard charging, alpha male we all looked up to, from a bygone era in America before men were neutered by political correctness. Hard to the core. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Appropriate for a U.S. Marine, Gunny Fixed has the weight and feel of a short boarding cutlass; an, ‘enlisted man’s boarding cutlass,’ if you will? Arrived machete sharp, with a 25 degree edge on the flat saber ground blade. Swedge is unsharpened. Has good balance with fulcrum about 1” in front of guard. Feels light weight in hand for such a large knife. Handle is comfortable, and rocks forward in a chopping stroke to deliver a power snap. No hot spots noted with use. Handle scales are handsome, but not grippy. Fine fit ‘n’ finish. Sheath is adequate, but definitely not a quick release sheath. This knife seems almost too nice to use. But, Gunny was never a man of pretense, aesthetics, facades, or false bravado. He was a man of function and action. Gunny designed this knife to be used, and he would have loved to have heard about your use of it at, Mail Call. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> More, than just a fine actor, or a U.S. Marine, R. Lee Ermey was the epitome of those rough men who stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm, so we can sleep peacefully in our beds at night. Thank you, Gunny, for your long service to God, Country, and The Corps. “At ease,” Gunny. Mission accomplished. Semper Fi!
