KS1870: 1870 Knockout Folding 3-1/4" Plain Blade

Kershaw

The Knockout American made Pocketknife Series features SpeedSafe® assisted opening. It’s equipped with a deep-carry clip and is drilled for quad-carry: tip-up, tip-down, left- or right-handed. The premium features of this knife don't stop there. The blade shape and action are reminiscent of the Hinderer from Kershaw's ZT knife division. The "walk and talk" of this folding pocketknife are amazing. It feels like a tool that will attack and conquer any task. The slim profile means that you can carry this knife in your pocket and it won't remind you all day that it's there. The fame or "subframe" lockup is ingenious and seems to work very well- at least when they're right out of the box. We like this knife at the KnifeCenter and highly recommend it!

From Kershaw: "Sure, the Knockout pocketknife offers knockout-good looks. But look beyond its awesome exterior to see what’s really special.

The Knockout folding pocketknife features Kershaw’s Sub-Frame Lock. What that means is that we’ve “knocked out” a piece of the machined aluminum frame and attached a stainless-steel plate in its place. It’s this steel plate that moves behind the knife blade to lock it open safely and very securely. Yet because only part of the knife handle or frame is steel, the Knockout can maintain its fighting weight and still provide a strong frame lock. You get a knife that’s big, yet lightweight enough to carry every day.

Then there’s the blade itself. It’s a modified drop point in high-performance Sandvik 14C28N stainless steel with a stonewashed finish. It offers excellent corrosion resistance and hardenability. The finish provides extra protection against rust, too. The Knockout knife is equipped with SpeedSafe® assisted opening for smooth and easy one-handed opening. Pull back on the built-in flipper or push on the thumb stud and the blade moves out of the handle quickly and easily.

The Knockout also comes with our deep-carry pocket clip so the knife can sit all the way down in your pocket. Even better, the handle is drilled for 4-position carry. Lightweight and versatile, the Knockout is destined to be your new favorite every day carrying knife."

Not a favorite
I went on a knife-buying tangent recently. I wanted to add some EDC blades to my small Kershaw inventory, the Blur and the Leek, both great knives and worthy of 5 stars. Based on the glowing reviews, I picked up a Knockout and was immediately underwhelmed. The problem, for me, is the handle. "Hate" is perhaps too strong, but I dislike it pretty intensely. Too thin, not comfortable in my hands which are medium-large (I wear a size L glove), and rather cheesy-looking. No complaints about the blade steel, the blade shape or the flipper; the blade deploys easily. But how a knife feels in one's hand is a big part or the joy of use and this Knockout leaves me joyless. Nor do I feel that 60 bucks is a good deal for this knife. For not much more than $60 you can buy a Blur, which is the better knife by far.

Best New knife
Easy open and close. It fits perfectly deep in the pocket with easy release. Lightweight, versatile. The weight is a perfect balance for ease of use. The blade angle allows minimal wrist movement and less effort. My favorite new knife.

I am a LE officer. I carry this knife week side everyday. It was sharp right out of the box .I can easily deploy it and use it left handed. I have cut seatbelts , para cord & rope with no problem. What’s great about this knife is the action is so smooth and the blade is very sharp right out of the box & the handle is very good. The knife takes a beating and keeps working. The price was great I got it on sale but I plan to get one for my brother . He is a LE officer in NYC.I highly recommend this knife that’s why I am getting one for my brother. 🇺🇸
