KU1028: 1028 Pinkerton Lancer Fixed Blade

Kizer Cutlery

The iconic Pinkerton Lancer is back and better than ever. The short, wide canted handle with deep finger choil locks the hand in position for an instinctive secure hold, no matter forward grip or reverse grip as the situation demands. The wide blade is influenced by the distinctive Scottish dirk pattern, in full tang, providing ample power to the Lancer. Whether you prefer side carry or appendix carry, the Lancer is quick to enter, and end, any trouble.

Kizer uses high-tech wire EDM machines to cut the parts. This method is slower than laser or waterjet but Kizer feels the quality is worth the wait. Each component in Kizer knives is precision machined and engineered to the finest tolerances. The final fit, finish, action and sharpness of each knife is achieved entirely by hand, employing the irreplaceable craftsmanship developed by generations of cutlery masters. Dedicated craftsman honoring the long-term goal of making the best knives possible is what Kizer brings to you.

Better than I hoped
I’m not familiar with the brand so I was hesitant to buy this knife. Caught it on sale and man am I happy with it. I would absolutely pay full price for this knife. The fit and finish is some of the best I’ve seen. Better than some of the knives I’ve paid twice as much for. The blade is a little big for edc but I don’t think I would change it.

Fistful of Hi-Qual Blade
I wasn't happy with my small Personal Defence blade collection and was eyeing off the Bradford Guardian 4: beautiful but expensive, and if we're honest, that choil is more stylish than safe for a piercing tool, regardless of grip offered by gorgeous 3D handle... (conflicted much?!) At the other end of the scale, my CRKT Crawford Kasper Dragon is cheap and great if you just need a bit of sharp metal to poke with, but the sheath is embarrassingly loose (does the job, I guess) and, if we're honest, there's little pride of ownership despite being a totally functional tool for PD. So I bought a Cold Steel Kobun and was happy for a while. Much better sheath and very handy metal clip comes attached to sheath for genuine concealed carry, but it's a bit too long for my ideal small PD blade - which would have a stainless blade around 10-12cm / 4-5in and a proper guard to be able to poke hard, safely.I started saving for the Bradford... until I re-discovered the Kizer Lancer. I forgot it came in S35VN, and when I measured out its dimensions, was exactly what I was looking for. At a reasonable price, even more so when I spotted it on sale (it sold out before I could finish my research and pull the trigger...).This time I used the Fed-Ex option and, despite no tracking info, arrived in Australia surprisingly quickly. Will use this option again next time. The knife itself is a little beauty! The handle is the grippiest G10 I own and is exactly a fist-full - perfect! It is a punchy bulldog of a knife, feels solid in the hand, substantial, serious. Quality is faultless and is head and shoulders above the perfectly capable Kobun (and its AUS 8A steel). The Lancer is a very good looking knife that feels strong and safe, giving a ton of confidence if ever drawn in need. I've already found a bunch of "food prep" excuses to use it and am so happy with this purchase. Turns out I really needed a concealable chef knife that doubles as a pocket-pitbull.The sheath: quality keeps par with the knife in perfectly fitting kydex. It's a satisfying snap-in retention that has zero rattle, and a firm thumb push sees it pop off. I've got a few custom kydex sheaths for my bigger knives and this is right up there with absolutely no question about deployment when you need it. Maybe do some thumb weights and eat a spoonful of concrete so you can harden up if you can't pop off a kydex sheath... ;)My only criticism: the blurb says "Whether you prefer side carry or appendix carry..." I would have loved to carry this little guy appendix or scout, but the sheath attachment is strictly side carry only, although you can swap right to left side. I'll tie some cord around it to fix to jeans belt loop if I ever need to, but it's annoying they didn't space the holes in the kydex to fit the screw holes in the attachment piece for perpendicular set up. Anyway, I took the attachment off the sheath and just carry my little friend in my jeans/shorts front pocket under my wallet - it is a little heavy, but you get used to it (I'm seriously loving this knife and firmly in the honeymoon phase). Final words: great balance between size vs concealability, beauty vs safe functionality, price vs quality. 100% recommended.

Outstanding Quality
This was a zero regret purchase. I plan on using this primarily for EDC and concealed purposes. It's a hair large for it, but the quality is outstanding. The edge came shaving sharp and it cuts like a dream. Fit and finish on this knife is pretty much flawless. My only two wishes on this would be for a hair more rounding on the handle scales (personal preference, there aren't really any hot spots), and the kydex is fitted incredibly snug. It's breaking in as I play around with it, but it still takes more effort to get it out than I'd like from the jump.
