Good small chopper
This is an excellent compact chopper / slicer for those who don't want big "look at me" blade. For reasons that are not worth explaining, I wanted a short chopping blade that can be stowed and carried discretely, yet which can do moderate chopping. A sturdy, non-pointy camp knife would be another way of describing it. I would not describe this as a machete but as a compact and lightweight camp chopper. The handle is a bit thin for my liking but wrapping with single thickness bicycle inner tube (secured with a cable / zip tie) improves it. Sheath looks basic but is adequate and has a leather piece inside where the blade edge rests to stop the nylon getting cut. Square spine section will throw firesteel sparks easily. Good steel. Should baton OK but don't batter the handle mercilessly because it is skeletonised to keep it blade heavy. Not for everyone but good for those seeking a smaller cutting / chopping tool.

Bought this because I was looking for a shorter than usual machete and it works great. You might not want to use it for clearing trails, but for lighter work, it will do. With the thicker blade it cuts well, it has enough weight to do most jobs, but for thicker branches it will take some extra time and effort. Chopped vines and branches up to about two inches and it worked well. The handle absorbs a lot of the shock and is comfortable in the hand. Chopped for about half an hour with no problems and no hot spots. Haven't used to baton yet, but should work well with the thick blade. Not sure exactly what type of steel it is, but didn't have any problems with edge rolling or chipping. You will want to keep it oiled though, it is Carbon steel. For the price though, it seems to be a decent knife. I say knife because it seems a bit short to be a real machete. Still, if it was all you had with you, you could probably get most jobs done, would just take more time. Sheath is a little cheap, but what do expect in this price range? It works . For $28 you can't hardly beat it. Thanks Knife Center for as usual great service.
