Almost a Great Pen

Lightweight (compared to the stainless steel version), fits well in the hand, cap removes easily for writing and cap is secure when not writing. The problem with this pen is that the gray coating where the carbide tip meets the aluminum barrel started to wear off after less than 1 day of use (I put the cap on the back of pen when writing). I sent the pen back to Benchmade and they replaced the barrel. When I received the repaired pen, the same thing occured after putting the cap on the end of the pen a couple of times. If I had to do it again, I would probably but the version without the carbide tip (since I have not heard of this problem on the non-carbide tip version of the pen)plus the non-carbide version is $10 less.

Not what id expect from an $100+ pen!

Well, my first impression when opening the box was that this pen is nice! It has nice weight, not too heavy but still has enough mass to be an effective weapon/glass breaker. I like the fluting going down the body and the gnarled cap is very nice. Overall it appeared to be a quality pen! BUT..... then i grabbed the cap to pull it off of the pen and realized that it is very loose and wiggles and rattles back and forth. The cap is loose to the point that i dont feel comfortable carrying it, i fear that the pen will separate and one half will be lost. This is not what id expect from a Benchmade product nor from an $100+ pen, so i called Benchmade and sent my pen in to be repaired/replaced. Now I'm not sure if the pen they sent back was my original pen that they repaired or a brand new one, but it came back with the identical problem, it didn't even feel slightly tighter than the original pen that i received. So even though i love everything about this pen accept the loose cap, i have to give it 2 stars because with the cap as loose as it is, this pen is completely useless to me.
