Nice Budget Utility/Hunter

Man! This is a handsome, well designed knife. Why did Gerber make it of cheap 5Cr15MoV steel? Basically, this is the equivalent of 420 HC, with questionable tempering. It is strong, tough, and fairly stainless steel, but plan on sharpening often. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Nice hunter/utility drop point blade w/good swedging. Nice hollow grind, but if you take the shoulders down to 15 degrees (30◦ combined) on a Spyderco Sharpmaker, then come back and give it a 20 degree edge, it will be a finer cutting edge (for awhile). Love the orange TacHide grip (whatever that is?). It is grippy, somewhat like Kraton. Handle is comfortable/secure in the hand. The jimping on the bottom of grip around index finger is a bit too, aggressive for comfort. I’m going to take it on the slack belt of the Ken Onion Work Sharp and tone down the jimping and ridges around the index finger groove, then it’s good to go. Great full tang extended pommel for smashing/hammering/prying, or whatever you need to do. Freeman Guide just has a nice feel in the hand, and it’s handy and maneuverable. The sheath is quiet and works, ‘bout all I can say. Lanyard a Gerber Pocket Diamond/Ceramic Sharpener to the sheath (Part #: GB4307, available at KnifeCenter.com, about $4), and you’ll always have a sharp edge at hand. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Gerber Freeman is a nice budget hunter/beater/truck knife/throw in bucket in back of the Jeep/so, what if it gets lost/stolen knife. This could be a great knife if Gerber made the Freeman Guide Pro: S35VN steel, refined jimping, and a quality sheath. For the current price Freeman Guide is pretty good buy.

Surprisingly Nice

Picked up this one on sale because it looked like it was going to be ok. But, I actually really love this one. The rubber handle has a really nice grip. And hot orange is great in the dark when I'm always trying to find where I set my knife down. It is very light weight so good in a pack. I'll also add that it's super easy to clean. So, overall it really surprised me in the good way.
