A step above
I've owned a Zwilling J.a. Henckles kitchen knife set for several years. I sharpened them regularly and used them intensely on a lot of different dishes/ingredients, but they were gradually showing their age in wear and tear. I wasn't sure what to expect with this Wusthof set, so I was very pleasantly surprised when each of the kitchen knives sailed through all kinds of ingredients--meat, vegetables, tough fruit and starchy potatoes--after a mere ten pulls on my fine-grained sharpening bars! The handles feel a little different, but are very easy to guide for small and large hands alike. The steel quality shows itself in its uniformity and edge holding capabilities. After Henckles, these knives are a genuine pleasure to cook with, as they are a noticeable step above what I've used before! Combine the dexterity of fine Japanese kitchen cutlery with the durability of a German tank and you get Wusthof kitchen knives.

Upgraded from Gourmet.
What can i say, these are forged not stamped like my old Wusthof Gourmet. I loved the Gourmet, but when I gave the set to my daughter for her new household, I was without my trusty Wusthof. So, I upgraded to the classic. I like the bolsters a lot, so I went with these. What can I say, you can tell from the weight, and the overall fit and finish, that these are a higher quality knife and being forged will hold an edge longer then the stamped Gourmet. If you have the money, go for the Classic - they are very refined knife. If you don’t want to spend that much gourmet, still a very fine knife set and soooo much better than the Walmart specials. All in all, I can understand why Wusthof has such a damn good reputation. Very nice knives.
